Seamside

Keys

The Keys page holds a key to an AI company, so Conjure can write for you.

The Keys page in the control room: each key by the service it is for, one open to paste into

Some frames use an outside service that gives you a key: a long password made for you, so a program can use your account there. Conjure needs one from an AI company. Keys, in the control room, is where a key is saved and where a frame is allowed to use it.

Why it matters

  • Conjure can't make anything until it has a model to write with. Adding a key is the one step before your first frame.
  • Your key stays on your computer. Seamside sends it only to the company it belongs to, and never shows it to anyone.

How it works

  • Open Keys from the control room's sidebar. Each key is listed by the service it is for, with whether it is saved and how many frames use it.
  • A frame that wants a key asks first, on Keys, on the To do page and over the frame. Conjure in your home is allowed from the start.
  • Allowing is half of it. A key nobody has pasted yet reads Not set up. Paste it there, or in the frame's own settings.
  • Seamside keeps your key in your encrypted vault, apart from the keys that are you. Only the part of a frame that runs on your computer reads it. Pages and visitors never see it.
  • Clear takes a key out, and with it every frame's permission to use it. Add key saves one for a service no frame has asked for yet.
  • If Conjure says a company did not accept your key, it was copied wrong, deleted, or out of credit. Make a new one and paste it over the old.
  • To run models on your own computer instead, install Ollama. No key is needed, and Conjure lists what Ollama holds once it is running.
Conjure before a model is set up: three steps to a free Ollama key, the first way in

Set it up

Pick one company to start with. Ollama Cloud, Gemini and Mistral are free to begin with; Anthropic and OpenAI charge for what you use and need credit on the account before a key works. Every one of these keys is pasted into its own row on Keys.

Ollama Cloud

  1. In Seamside, open Conjure. It shows the three steps below, each with a button.
  2. Make a free account at ollama.com.
  3. Open your keys, add a new key and copy it.
  4. Back in Conjure, choose Paste your key, paste it and choose Save. Conjure picks a model to start with.

Anthropic

  1. Go to console.anthropic.com and sign in or make an account.
  2. Under Billing, add credit. Nothing runs on an empty balance.
  3. On API keys, choose Create Key, name it, and copy it. It is shown once.
  4. Paste it into the Anthropic row on Keys, or in Conjure under Already have a key?

OpenAI

  1. Go to platform.openai.com and sign in or make an account.
  2. Under Billing, add credit. OpenAI charges for what you use.
  3. On API keys, choose Create new secret key and copy it. It is shown once.
  4. Paste it into the OpenAI row on Keys.

Gemini

  1. Go to Google AI Studio and sign in with a Google account.
  2. Choose Create API key and copy it. It’s free to start; Google may use what you send to improve its products.
  3. Paste it into the Gemini row on Keys.

Mistral

  1. Go to console.mistral.ai and make an account.
  2. Choose the free Experiment plan and confirm your phone number by text. Mistral may use what you send to improve its models.
  3. On API keys, choose Create new key and copy it. It is shown once.
  4. Paste it into the Mistral row on Keys.

Ollama on this computer

  1. Download Ollama from ollama.com/download and open it.
  2. Download a model in it. A model is a big file, and a slower computer takes longer to write with it.
  3. In Conjure, choose Check again. Nothing leaves your computer.

Words to know

  • Key: a long password a company makes for you, so a program can use your account there.
  • Model: the AI that writes the frame. Each company offers several, and Conjure lists the ones your key can use.
