Seamside

Devices

Build the network you need, from a browser tab to a small server.

Weekend adventure

Most things you share don't need to be online around the clock. A file handoff lasts minutes, a draft lasts while you work, and a team board lasts for months. Seamside lets each one live on the device that suits it, and your spaces bring them together.

Why it matters

  • Put each thing on the device that fits it: a tab for a quick handoff, your laptop while you work, a computer that stays on for every day.
  • Move things between devices any time. Nothing changes for the people you share with.

How it works

  • A browser tab can host a call, a poll or a page for as long as the tab is open.
  • Your laptop hosts what you're working on whenever it's open.
  • A computer that stays on, like a desktop, a spare machine or a small rented server, keeps things up all the time.
  • A member can keep a copy of a space, and the owner can ask that member's computer to keep it reachable too.
  • Your phone opens your spaces and apps from anywhere. The phone app is coming soon.
  • When devices can't reach each other directly, traffic goes through a relay that only sees encrypted data.

Set it up

  1. Install Seamside on each computer and confirm it as your device.
  2. For a machine that stays on, download the server build.

Words to know

  • relay: passes sealed traffic between you and your visitors. It can't read it.
  • steward: another computer that keeps your spaces reachable when yours is off.
